Join us for a webinar brought to you in partnership with ENTIS (European Network of Teratology Information Services).

In this webinar, we will discuss the safety of commonly used antibiotic medications in the community during pregnancy and lactation. A brief introduction will be given about teratology, followed by explanation of the different antibiotics used in pregnancy, the transfer of medications into breastmilk, and the safety of commonly used antibiotics during breastfeeding.

Prof. Matitiahu (Mati) Berkovitch, specialist in pediatrics and clinical pharmacology, director of the clinical pharmacology and toxicology unit, chair of Helsinki committee, Shamir Medical Center, chair of the advisory committee on drug registration- Israel Ministry of Health, The Andy Lebach Chair of clinical pharmacology and toxicology, The Gray faculty of medical health sciences, Tel-Aviv University.

About Prof. Ken Hodson (Moderator)

Ken Hodson graduated from the University of Bristol in 2001. He initially underwent a physician training pathway, having completed a medical rotation and MRCP(UK) in 2004. He has a keen interest in medical disorders of pregnancy and so underwent training in obstetrics and gynaecology and further subspeciality training in Maternal and Fetal medicine. He has been a Consultant in Maternal Medicine at the Royal Victoria Infirmary Hospital, Newcastle upon Tyne, since 2017 and runs a specialised clinic in renal and cardiac disease in pregnancy. He is the Head of the UK Teratology Information Service (UKTIS) advising patients, healthcare professionals and government regarding drug use and safety in pregnancy. In 2025, he became Head of the Scientific Committee for ENTIS.

About Prof. Dr. Serdar Öztora (Moderator)

Prof. Dr. Serdar Öztora is Professor of Family Medicine at Trakya University Faculty of Medicine, where he works in clinical practice, teaching, research, and academic development. His professional interests include primary care, prevention, medical education, health systems, and the future development of family medicine. He graduated from Istanbul University Cerrahpaşa School of Medicine and later completed his specialist training in Family Medicine. Alongside his medical career, he has continued his education in different fields, including Health Management, Web Design and Development, and currently Sociology, reflecting his belief in lifelong learning and the value of multidisciplinary perspectives. Professor Öztora has been involved in academic publishing for many years and serves as Managing Editor and Editorial Board Member of the Eurasian Journal of Family Medicine. He has also contributed to the establishment and development of several academic and professional initiatives. Over the years, he has held a range of leadership and service roles in national professional organisations, scientific congresses, academic journals, accreditation bodies, and university committees, gaining broad editorial and organisational experience. At the European level, he has represented Türkiye in EUROPREV since 2017, became a member of its Coordinating Group in 2023, and was appointed Chair in 2026. He also serves on the Executive Board of WONCA Europe. He values collaboration, lifelong learning, international cooperation, and practical approaches to strengthening family medicine and primary care.
